Carrying Extra Fluids.

I like to keep 1 extra quart of motor oil and 1 quart of outdrive fluid. I have found that after a Oil change & outdrive fluid change it takes a few outings for the fluid levels to stabilize, but I don't like to keep the oils in the Galley or anywhere in the boat for odvious reasons. Our other Bennington (2007 2575 RLIO) has a Aera between the Fuel tank and the aluminum motor box that works like a shelf and Oil containers slip down into its and stay put safe and sound. I have stored fluids in the motor box like this for years. Our 2012 QCW I/o Dosent have this feature so I wanted to come up with a clean safe way to cary fluid  and came up with this.

Its a Aluminum Oil container holder made for holding fluids on the wall of a enclosed trailer this one holds 5 quarts. I only need to hold 2 quarts so I'm gonna cut it in 1/2 and mount it in the motor box. I got it on Amazon for $26

I know some people might be skeptical about keeping fluids like this in a Hot environment like a motor box, I have no Idea how hot it gets inside the motor box but it Dosent seem to be hot enough to cause alarm. I'm gonna bring my digital temp gauge to take a reading next time out. I would think it's got to be in the 150 degree range.

I can't imagine it getting much hotter than a car trailer on a hot summer day. Cool idea. Make sure to post up pics of final result.

I keep 1 quart of Mercruiser 25W40 engine oil and 1 quart of Mercruiser outdrive gear lube and a funnel in a waterproof ziplock freezer bag in the portside front corner storage area under the lounger. Same one I keep my front anchor in. Lots of room........

Yeah, we keep our yamalube, stabil, and other cleaning supplies in a small Tupperware container in the one lounger. Figure if one springs a leak, at least it will be contained.

I get it for "you outboarders" that makes sence and a plastic tub is a great idea keep the possible mess contained.

I yell at the mechanic if things go wrong

Keep extra fluids in a plastic tub in the helm storage compartment but the hanger is a great idea also.

When I look at the photos of the oils in the aluminum holder they look to sit in kinda loose. From the photos above you can see a small gap around the oils. I have a Idea. If they are not held in super tight I can add some of that rubber edge guard to make the opening just a tad smaller and make the fluids fit a bit more snug

If it was me I'd add some end panels, extend the rear, and weld/seal them up. If one of those containers leaks it will be contained in the trough (assuming it's not wedged tight in the opening.

When I had my power steering pump installed I had Bennington make an aluminum sump so any leaking at the fittings won't touch the floor.

I stored some Mercury Quickleen in the fiberglass tray on the helm door. It leaked and melted right through the bottom of the tray, had to replace the whole thing.

When ever I carried any fluids, they were in brand new UNOPENED containers. That way i never worried about leaking in the boat or car. MrG, I really liked that rack you found.

I guess my question would be. Why even have any fluids on your boat to worry about ? Do you carry any fluids in your vehicles? I personally don't do either.

Like I said after I put the standard 5+ quarts of oil in the boat after a oil change the oil level dosen't equalize or level out untill after about the 2nd or 3rd trip out? , At least that's what I have found. Same go's for the outdrive. I will fill the outdrive full of fluids after a oil change, and fill the overflow bottle to the recomended line after 2 or 3 time out the outdrive fluid is Low. After I re- fill it up for the 2nd time the fluids remain even. I guess the fluid needs to get back into all the nooks and crannys.  That's why I keep the extra fluid onboard. "Better to have it and not need it THEN to need it and Not have it. (kind of like a Gun) ;)

And as far as not keeping any with you in your car! Well they have gas stations at almost every corner so i see your point when it come to the road.

My extra fluids are usually in 12 oz. glass bottles that contain hops and barley.  I prefer to carry them in a cooler full of ice.

I've never had a problem with those fluids, well, sometimes the next day I do.   I highly recommend carrying extras for friends that seem to show up.

Check this out!!!! I think it's brilliant, but then again, I would never own one because I always have music with me.  Seriously I bring a JBL pulse with me even to Restraunt's "disclaimer" our local watering hole is a country music heaven. I bring the JBL pulse to drown out the country. Never over power or draw attention just enough to mute the Country.

Dang. They are putting Bluetooth in everything/everywhere. It is amazing the sound quality of som of these things. I have a CANZ 808 and it's got some crazy bass ability. (I don't like bass but it sounds good on it).

Nice Grant, looks factory! You do come up with some good projects / solutions!
