Garmin not working

I have a 2024 23SXSR. The transducer is not working on the Garmin 743 along with the fuel gauge. Apparently the fuel gauge is a known issue with Bennington and they still have not given my dealer an answer as to when it will be fixed... having a fuel gauge is pretty important! Anyone out there dealing with this as well?

I hope it is not a common issue. I have a 2024 SXSB.

OOC, did the transducer and fuel gauge not work since new, or they worked, but have since stopped working? Who said it is a known issue, as we haven’t really heard of it being one? Did they say what the known issue is with the fuel gauges on presumably some 2024’s? Very curious.

That aside, and not sure if this will help, but I have Mercury digital controls. I was having a “mystery” battery & electrical issue for a bit last summer. As a result of it, my basic guages were not getting power and working. My work around was in my mercury digital control screens, which were still working, had a fuel burn rate setting. So I used that to keep track of fuel usage until we figured out what was going on with the gauges (which ended up being the dealership didn’t reconnect the negative wire between battery 1 & 2 after I got new batteries last year).

Anyway, do you have any digital controls that have a fuel burn rate setting you could use until your dealership can get this repaired or replaced for you?

I have a Rinda so the first thing I would do is hook it up and see what it says to confirm its the garmin and not something else. This is all assuming you read your fuel level on the garmin. Is that correct?

The fuel level coming from the fuel sender is digitized and put on the CAN bus. If the data is able to be read on the CAN bus by something other than the Garmin(In my case RInda scanner) then you know it's the Garmin. If not, then you have to work form the sender end.

Does your transducer connect to the Garmin with its on connector or over the CAN bus? This depends on what type of transducer and 743 you have.

I have a Garmin 743 on my 2025 20 sxs. I can see a fuel reading (percentage of the tank not gallons of fuel), and I can get a fuel usage (gal/min) as well. It seems to me that they have the data to calculate the range, but I cannot get a range calculation. That field is always blank. I have written the question to Garmin, but so far have not had a solution. Can you get range?

I dont have the number with me right now ,but you can call Garmin . The search box is in the upper right corner you should be able to find their number there.
They were very helpful when I have called them in the past.

I'm not sure the Garmin has a range function, it would be pretty worthless IMO since your fuel burn fluctuates so much. I can burn 22-24g/hr or 2, WOT vs idle. Even if there were a range output I wouldn't trust it. Just use rule of thirds or do some basic math in your head.

As far as the transducer goes, I recently had trouble for about 4 months on mine and it was giving some fairly poor sonar returns. Sidescan worked great which was weird. After calling Garmin and talking with a tech for about an hour he finally convinced me to replace the tx. Finally got around to it a few weeks back, swapped in a new GT54 and voila back up and running 100%. Everything looked fine on the old one until I pulled it off and closely inspected, and lo behold there was a hairline crack that had allowed water to intrude into it. I probably banged it off a stump, rock or gravel bottom.

Not suggesting you buy a new tx but obviously that's one way to troubleshoot. As far as fuel goes, have you eliminated the sender being the problem?

Thanks, for the information. I spoke with Garmin and they tried to troubleshoot the issue and then referred me to Honda who referred me to my dealer, but my boat is in storage now. I was hoping someone else had solved this particular problem.

I used the range all the time with my electric motor on my sailboat. However, range is not much of an issue with gasoline engines.

Thanks,
Allen
