Honey, what do you want to do tonight?

That is what my bride of 33 years asked me one Saturday afternoon in mid-February. Buying a boat wasn't the first thing that came to mind, but since the Charlotte boat show was underway and we needed a life jacket for our Husky, we thought we would go look, for the life jacket that is.

We have had 3 Sea Ray bow riders over the last 25 years and wasn't looking for a new boat. Well after we didn't find a dog life jacket, we went to the Sea Ray section of the show. After looking at the prices, it didn't take long to see that our current boat was just fine.

Since this had been a mild winter, I kept hearing from my wife "it's a beautiful day, why can't we go out on the lake like the Dalton's?" I told her they have a pontoon with an outboard  and don't have to winterize and I don't want to do that every time we go out.

Back to the show. We walked past a pontoon and I told her "at the stage of life we are in our next boat probably should be a pontoon". But I was thinking down the road. I didn't realize it would be the shortest road I have traveled.

We stopped and looked at a pontoon and talked to the owner of the dealership about the boat for about 5 minutes, but spent an hour just "talking". By that time the show was closing, but we took some info about the boat.

Fast forward to Wednesday. We both got off early and we decided to go look at pontoons. The first place we went was the Bennington dealer, just to "look" and on Saturday we had a 24SSBXP on order.

We finally got the build date today which is May 1 with dealer receipt May 10. Wouldn't you know that the date is the the boat will be ready for us to pick up, we are leaving on a 2 1/2 week trip to Europe?

Congrats, welcome to the family, and pics when it shows up!! What's the specs?

That will feel like the longest 2-1/2 weeks of your life ....

Welcome to the family from Denver. Who did you buy from?

I will get the specs up soon. Since my first post was so long and tantalizing, I didn't want to bore you with the other "details".

Congrats! You'll love it!

It's a known fact that if you go to a boat show for a life jacket for a dog you will have full blown PADS in less than a year.

Ha ha.  After 33 years, I'd say you knew EXACTLY what you were doing.

Congrats on the Bennington!  Welcome to the club!

Now, that's a story I can relate to! Welcome to the club Pon Tuna Salad! After about 50 years of various bowriders (starting from childhood mind you), we bought our first pontoon last Spring and haven't looked back.

Welcome to the nut house! ;)  congratulations on the new boat..... bummer on the Europe trip, but the Benny will be waiting with open arms when you return!

What a great purchase experience.  Very exciting.  I look forward to seeing the spec's and eventually pics in May.  We ordered a 24' SSBXP ourselves in December.  We are looking forward to getting it from our dealer once our dock is finished and installed at our cottage.  I'd love to see your pics and specs when you get yours to see the colors and variations in yours compared to ours.  We wont get our's delivered until sometime in May, so I wont be bothering with pictures until then.  I want it rigged and in the water at our cottage first.   :D

Congratulations PonTuna Salad!  Switching over to a pontoon was the best decision we've ever made.  The second was buying Bennington. :)  Welcome to the club!
