Maiden Voyage

Last weekend I took my new 2016 24 SSRX out for her maiden voyage here in Austin.  I took along a "boat buddy" who has lived on, worked on boats since he was a child since I've never owned one before.  (Driven plenty)

No problems towing, deploying (backed into the ramp in one shot), but I did let him put her back on the trailer since it was quite windy.  I'll try it next time now that I've seen it from underneath while it's approaching.

I learned a few things:

I needed, and ordered some fender hangers for my top rail so I don't have to scramble about at docking time.

My boat is smooth on choppy water.  My buddy said it was the most comfortable he's been on a boat.

My engine is so quiet at idle (Yamaha 150 4S) that i must make a mental note to double check it's off before anyone goes off the boat for a swim.

Speaking of swimming - 67F water takes only about 15 minutes to become uncomfortable; even with 85F air temps.

Always check your nuts / bolts on your trailer winch (and other areas for that matter).  2 of mine went missing on the trip home.  Home Depot, stainless hardware, locktite deployed.

People really like Benningtons - got a lot of compliments.

Welcome to the forum and to the world of Bennington.  You are really going to enjoy your new boat this summer.  Lots of experienced folks on this forum who can answer any and all of your questions.  Don't hesitate to ask.  As it sounds as if you may be relatively new to boating I would encourage to take a boating safety class.  You can probably find one in your area if not they are also available on line.

Welcome aboard ......... ummm PICS!!!!!  :D

Congrats and enjoy the new boat!

Congratulations on the new boat.  How exciting!  Looking forward to seeing some pictures of it.

Welcome to the club!  Pics are a must, sarcasim is free and plan on us spending a lot of your money!! :)

Congratulations.  Check the lugs on your trailer tires too if it is new.  As a matter of fact, I would check all nuts, bolts, screws to ensure they are tight.

Sounds like a great day. Nothing better than that maiden voyage with a toy like a Bennington!

Can't beat that first time feeling with your new Bennington! And pics!!!!

Welcome to the club, Chrisbert! Enjoy...

Welcome and pics.  :)

Thanks for the welcomes!

I'll get some pics up soon.  I was so involved in exploring the boat I totally forgot to get any decent ones.

I took an online boater safety course before I bought her; it helped with my insurance as well.

regards,

Chrisbert
