Hello, We just took delivery on our new 25LFBS0P with a 90HP Mercury Command Thrust, no Power Assist Hydraulic Steering. Just standard, It's hard to turn to the left and is not tracking straight. Looked at the motor and there is no trim tab. Could this be the issue? I'm getting conflicting answers. I talked to my dealer about this and he said that the new motors don't need trim tabs anymore. Some articles I've read say if have assisted steering trim tabs are not used.
Should there be a trim tab on my motor?

If you like, you can call Mercury. 1 (920) 929-5040. They were very helpful every time I have called

Thanks, called and said motors do not come with trim tabs and if needed to order.

We just took delivery of a new 2024 Bennington 20S pontoon boat with a Mercury 90efi motor. Exact same issue: pulls to the right even at idle speed and progressively harder at higher speeds. Did you ever resolve the issue? If so, would you please share the fix. Boat dealer has not yet been able recommend a solution. Thanks.

Trim tabs haven't been on outboards for a while, just the anode. But check out the various Yamaha parts vendors online you should be able to get steering anode to substitute if you need it.

But the trim is just to counter some of the prop torque forces on boat direction. It won't make a problematic steering situation better, I'd check with the dealer about that hard left.

Thank you for the feedback. Yes, everyone I have spoken to agree it is caused by the torque of the engine; a well-known issue. Which is why the torque steering trim tabs used to be a common accessory on most, if not all, outboards. Mercury highlights in their advertising about having the greatest torque in the industry. A good thing in most eyes. So I am trying to figure out how they counteract it so the boat steers true in a hands-free manner. If the trim tabs are no longer required, I am wondering if I received a bad engine or if it was damaged somewhere along the way during installation. No damage is obvious. Absent damage, I assume a major brand like Mercury would not have a solution for such a well known issue as torque steering on outboard engines.

Cable steering?
