I have a fastback style boat, so I have two speakers on the back of the boat facing rearward and no rear seat speakers. They are great while swimming, but not much sound in the rear seat area while going down the lake. I'd like to add two speakers in the rear seat bases.
Can I just find the wires going to the rear speakers and splice into them? I was worried it would lower the power running to the rear speakers by adding two more. Also if not marked, how do you tell which speaker wire is positive and which one is negative?

If you don't have an external amplifier driving the speakers, then splicing additional speakers will create a lower impedance (ohm) load on your stereo, which could fry it.

You can circumvent that by replacing the rear fastback speakers and adding a pair of speakers that are all 2Ω, and wired correctly in series would present the needed 4Ω load to your stereo.
