Hello ! So on a new set of Pontoons that have never hit the water. Would it be best to White Diamond polish them and then Sharkhide or just Sharkhide with out polish? I guess the question is will the polish screw up the Sharkhide from covering completely?

Do you like them shiny or the way they look now? shark hide will preserve what you currently see.

If the new toons look good, go ahead and Sharkhide'em.  I bought my boat 1 month old that had been kept in a dark warehouse, and the toons were already tarnishing.

Polishing is not hard if you have a good dual action polisher with a wool bonnet.  The problem is getting 100% of the black oxide off the polished toons so you can Sharkhide'em.

I've given up with the Sharkhide, and just polish the toons in June of every year.

I wish I read this 5 hours ago!  I polished my toons, then applied the sharkhide.  Was doing great until I got to the front of the port side toon, I left black streaks all over it!  I guess I did not get all the black oxide off the pontoons!!!!  What a nightmare.  I got a bunch of it off with my pressure washer.  Any suggestions how to get the streaks out now?  Should I use some type of acid wash?  It looks terrible.

I will tell you one thing, let the dealer Sharkhide the new pontoons if you have the option, I figured I would do it myself, when I got the boat the pontoons were already tarnished from the trial ride by the dealer.  I polished what I could get at, what a nightmare that is also, I have better things to do with my time.

I cannot even fit between my tri toons with the lifting strakes, no way I can polish the inside of the toons, I will have to send my son in just to apply shark hide.  I don't know how I am going to perform maintenance on the inside of my toons.

LET THE DEALER DO IT IF YOU PURCHASE A NEW BOAT!

Only use laquer thinner to remove the black and then do the sharkhide.

Have the factory apply the sharkhide.  Money well spent.
