Just put down deposit on 2575RCW Limited with ESP package. Had a 2011 G3 Elete 325C tritoon with 250 hp Yamaha that was damaged in storm at local marina. The boat is a total loss. The motor has almost 12,000 damage. My question to all of you is would you repair motor or get new one. Most of the damage is cosmetic with al of the fiberglass needing replaced. Ignition coil was broken and valve cover is cracked. The motor only has 14 hours on it since new. Dealer said he didn't think anything else internally is damaged. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated

Does your engine have a "Title", if yes, will the insurance company stamp the title as salvage ? Was the engine under water, if yes, how long ? Has anything been done to pickle the engine, or has it since been started ? What has the insurance company offered, and how close is that number to a new engine, with full warrantee ? What year is the engine, after tech. inspection, is warrantee remaining ?

The motor is 2011. Was not under water. Has been started and runs ok. Insurance has not made offer as yet. Will post as soon as offer is made

Welcome to the party! I guess all questions have been asked but I would keep the motor.

Motorman,

Welcome to the addiction.

If the engine will run, it's hard to believe $12K in repairs would be needed. I'd take the $ and replace the broken parts myself. You probably could pocket some good $.

Thanks for all the input. Will make sure about title. Talked with insurance rep today and he said they would total the boat for sure. He said he

had talked with adjuster about totaling motor also. He told adjuster that it looked like they should total both and just settle on amount with me for boat,

motor, and trailer since I would not need trailer if I purchased different brand or type of boat. He said they would probably need trailer in order to

get boat. I am looking forward to getting this settled and getting back on the lake in the Bennington. My son is going through the same thing on his boat.

He had a 2009 Premier Majestic tri-toon with PTX package and a 2011 Yamaha 250 with the long shank. His boat is totaled and they are still debating the motor.

His problem is that he can't use the long shank motor on the 2012 Premier that he is getting. His old boat had a 25" transom and the new one has a 20" transom.

He will also have to get new trailer since his old trailer is too short for the new boat.

This is a great site to visit and look forward to talking with you in the future.

Thanks again for the input.

Insurance rep just called with an offer to settle. I had replacement value insurance with a limit on boat and motor (not agreed value policy). Insurance company will pay me the full amount of what I had boat insured (27900.00) because the boat was totaled. He said motor was 65% damaged and it had to be 70% to be considered totaled. They went ahead and totaled motor any way because there could be some hidden costs involved if we repaired motor. They allowed me 17530.00 for the motor and also gave me 1370.00 tax for motor. They also paid tow bill and would have paid for any miscellaneous items that were lost or destroyed. I am very satisfied with my insurance company (ALLSTATE) and the way that they handled the claim. Don't think I could have done any better with another company.

I am looking forward to getting the Bennington on the lake

Funny you should say that. Tomorrow I was planning to switch away from Allstate and go with BoatUS...

Found out if I made an oil slick in the lake due to an accident they would pay $100 for cleanup. I thought that had to be a typo in the email from my agent. Thought for sure she meant 100%. Nope. $100.

BoatUS coverage for environmental clean up is $850,000.

That and other problems I'm having with my agent. I got dumped on her when my old agent moved out of town, and have not been too happy with her. Plan to change my boat policy, keep home and auto with Allstate but switch to a new agent.

Have you looked at Progressive. We have Motorist Mutual and had our first toon added to our homeowners policy. When we got the Bennington our agent shopped and recommended Progressive. The policy covers normal stuff plus damage and mechanical breakdown of the lower unit. We had to file a claim this year because of our tow in. Had a little trouble getting in touch with the adjuster that handles boats. Both of us busy. Once we made contact, it was a 5 minute conversation and the check was mailed that day. I am very happy with them and having the added coverage for the mechanicals on the lower end.

Thats my insurance carrier. Insurance is like "friends" though. You never know how good it-they are until you need them. Gerry

It sounds like you had a good outcome with the insurance and have fun with your new boat.

Anyone pro-BoatUS?

We are about to find out how good of a "friend" the insurance carrier for the lake house is. Jill went to the lake with friends last weekend and had no electricity. Had power at the meter but not in house. Electrician came out and reset switches at the meter not at main panel. I found out there are backflow switches at the new meter. She starts looking around and the big light at the garage is in pieces , siding off the house and outlets blown off the walls in the garage. House got hit by lighting. Later found interior paneling separated from studs. Adjusters coming Monday. Luckly nobody was in the house during the storm.

And lucky it didn't burn to the ground.

Since nobody was home and the neighbors' house is not close, a pile of ashes would not have hurt anybody and meant a new house. I won't have to crawl underneath and fix the plumbing any more. Win-Win for me :D
