Has anyone experienced vibration at idle and low RPMS (under 2,000) from a brand new Yamaha VMax outboard? From zero hrs it has had a visually noticeable vibration when looking at engine and you can feel it a little in steering wheel. Too hard to tell if its still vibrating at 4,000 rpms and can not go over, as it has less then 3 hrs on engine. It is mounted to a brand new 2026 M Series tritoon. It was set up by dealer with a Reliance 15 3/4 x 15 P prop. Wondering if it is normal? or could be eliminated or reduced with a better prop??
thank you!

Did you do a trial run with your dealer?
If you did what did the dealer say ?

If you think it could be the prop, check with Ken at propgods.com.
He's gotten many members here dialed in.

I did do that back in January and the prop he reccomended that I requested to put on was not the one they installed. The dealer puts a basic prop on. I don't think a 'dealer approved' basic prop should cause vibration.

Have you asked the dealer for the size you requested? Also anything 150 and above should be a Stainless.

There are likely several causes of vibration. Anything out of balance like a prop would be suspect, as would a bent prop shaft. You would think if this is a new zero hour engine and prop that should not be the issue, but crazier things have happened. Working with your dealer first as Jack noted is good advice. Any warranty issues obviously would go through them but presumably they want to keep you happy and coming in for those oil, filter and impeller changes!

I believe the VF200 is a V6 so it's should be a little smoother than the inline 4's. My V6 has more or less vibration depending on the RPM so there could be some natural harmonics to the entire deal. It will literally rattle my side door but after years of ownership it's just "character" to the boat and you stop worrying about it. If you really wanted to go nuts try test driving another VF200 if the dealer has on the lot. Probably a long shot but something to consider.

But yes get rid of that Reliance, wrong prop. Many others like a Mercury Enertia are much, much better and will increase top speed, holeshot, time to plane, fuel efficiency, reverse, etc etc.

I had to get rid of my reliance on my 2015 Q series. I have a F200 Yamaha and there was just too much cavitation and slippage pushing this big barge around. Had to get a more aggressive prop with better cupping. So far so good.

What prop did you get?

Yes, thank you . I had reached out to Ken at Prop God‘s last October when I ordered the boat. I could not get the dealer to put it on. I was just surprised that the reliance prop was causing that much vibration and lack of performance . going to order that Q 3 in a 15 pitch

I'm just being curious, is that the size prop Ken suggested?

The Yamaha SWS2 prop is a decent all-around prop, will be better than the Reliance for sure. Additional bonus, you'll get the SDS hub which eliminates a lot of the rattle and clunking you can get with other hubs. But the Q3 / Enertia even with an inferior hub will get you a little better performance.
