I’m thinking about having my toons on my 2575 painted black , what’s the recommended paint and what are your experiences with painted toons, I just don’t like the high polished look, black would match my boat but I’m worried bumpers would rub the paint off….

I am also curious about painting the toons. Seems like they would be easier to maintain versus all the work with polishing and cleaning unpainted toons. Fishing boats are painted and they usually look great for years. My 20 year old Crestliner Sportfish looked great. Never had a problem with bumpers.

I have no personal experience. However, everything I have ever read is going with an anti-fouling aluminum boat paint. It is made specifically for aluminum hull boats (should be no different for aluminum pontoons). It should have a cooper element to it to repel and protect against marine growth and hold up well. Prepping surface before painting is critical!

Some require primer and paint, some are combos. Here is a short article from JD Power on it, but a google search reveals lots of info and products. Good luck.

Have them wrapped rather than painted.
I’ve thought about that but I’m not sure how long it would last without fading not to mention I’m thinking I don’t need the bottom third of the toons painted or wrapped except for the front of them being solid paint or wrap.
A friend of mine has a sign business and wraps vehicles, he uses a premium material and says it still cracks and fades under extreme heat from the sun….

Actually it needs to be copper free from what I’ve read over time.
Aluminum and copper have a reaction to each other. Not sure who wrote that for JD Powers but I personally think it’s incorrect from everything I’ve read over the years. Years backs it was the case, but from what I understand they got away from the copper due to potential reaction.

Oh my! I didn’t consider that and just went with what I had ready previously and what was being stated in the JDPower article. Glad you raised an important concern.

yeah, i could see that... it could create galvanic corrosion... though i'm not educated enough to know if it happens practically in the field. Might not be a lot of data since most boats with bottom paint aren't aluminum... lots of glass...
