Can’t see the other boat very well, but we towed a fellow boater in after the fireworks show last night. They had run out of gas. We know what that feels like, so we were very glad to help.
 
Good man! I’m sure they were most appreciative.
 
Good for you! We need more boaters like you.

I've towed 6 now (over 7 years) with the last being a stranded jet ski two weekends ago My neighbors and I have a friendly competition to see who can tow the most boats. I already knew 3 of the 6 boaters I towed in. I now have a nice list of people I can call if I ever need a tow.

Funny, I was going to start a thread under same name.

Today:
1. Cleaned up lots of trash floating around.
2. Towed a boater in who’s motor died out in middle of lake. He was trying to go with a trolling motor but wasn’t making any headway.
3. Taught a “rental” boater you have to trim the motor down to go anywhere ..... I could hear the exhaust from 50 yards away .....
 
My wife and I towed a pretty full Sweetwater pontoon boat a couple Saturdays ago. Dead battery after playing the radio all day. They had asked a local fire department boat in the cove for help but department policy prevented that. Anyway we tied their rope to our ski pylon. We had to cross the main channel by a popular restaurant and bridge so we asked the Fire Dept. boat for an escort and they provided it. The Sweetwater crew wanted to pay us but like Spoiledrotten we told them to Pay it forward! They also told us that they had asked several boats for help prior to us and were told No. C'mon people......You have to help your fellow boater. You'll never know when you will need it....
 
This is my most disappointing story... I was the last boat at the end of the beach of maybe 10 boats. A mom and about 5 kids were stranded on the lake. They called their Fireman dad/husband who came to the beach and started asking for help starting with the boat furthest from me. Obviously, he made it all the way to me. Everyone said no. He was wearing a local town fire station t shirt too. I didn't even think saying "no" was an option when he asked me for help. I said "jump in". You could see their boat from the beach maybe a half mile away. The wind was blowing them towards a rock cliff. You can could also see the ramp they used another half mile away. It wasn't like it was a 15 mile tow, yet all those other boats were too busy doing nothing to help.

That feeling you get when you help someone in need was far too great to go back to the beach and chew out those other boaters. I should have, just didn't have the mindset. Matter of fact, I remember being pretty happy for a number of days after that. I'll tow someone anytime.
 
I think I’ve told this story here before but here’s a short version. For the first five years I put my boat in on my annual July 4 vacation I towed a boat in. My buddies waiting at the dock started a side bet after the second year it happened! Been a volunteer fireman 26 years, not helping would be like driving by a house that’s on fire and never stop!!!

Did you have to use both motors to tow this guy? Your's and his trolling motor?

Okay, I'll add to your post. I've been out three time this year and have ended the weekend towing someone in twice. Both times dead batteries and long tows (about an hour). Thankfully they were at least in the same general direction that I was bound for. Think I'll buy a jumper cable and make my life easier...
 
Funny thing is earlier mine wouldn’t start. I think it vapor locked,
