I had researched and read a lot about Sharkskin to help protect the pontoons and keep them cleaner. It seemed some had success but not when the boat spent a lot of time in the water. Mine stays in a fresh water lake most of the time just coming out for maintenance and deep cleaning. Some more research and talking to the producer I decided to try Metal Jacket XL on my Q23. They highly recommend it be installed by a certified/trained dealer but I would have done that either way as the boat must be lifted to cover all the surface area. In this area it is Race City Marine in Mooresville. Picked it up a few weeks and put in the water Easter. I will post updates as I live with it. One of the dealer employees has had it on their toon for about 2 years, it stays in a lake also, and he wipes the bottoms with a microfiber cloth when out and he reports it is holding up well so far and comes really clean.

I usually recoat mine with Sharkhide every other year. I've got my dealer looking into metal jacket.
If yours previously had Sharkhide did it have to be removed?

No the boat did not have Sharkhide but they would have needed to remove it. Mine was acid washed and then lightly polish more to insure a smooth surface and good adhesion. This is basically a spray on product.

Thanks for posting this project. Looks very interesting. The website seems to imply that it can be a do-it-yourself project with a micro-fiber towel. I have a new pontoon and am considering some type of treatment before its first launch. As a side note, I always wonder why the tubes are not painted like many high-end AL fishing boats.

I am uncertain of the product you are looking at on their site as they have several from what I did to basically what I would call a ceramic coating. I had a lengthy conversation with Frank Ugarte at SG prior to making my decision. Only time will tell if it was the right one!!! I would think even if DIY the boat would need to be suspended to cover all areas or moved around allot on the trailer. I will update with my results!!

It looks great NCLakeFuy!
I am no expert and looked at the MetalJacket XL product and its technical specs / application instructions (link posted below).
I am not familiar with the product, but find it interesting. I have Sea Legs / Ultra Legs if I was adventurous enough to try it, assuming it is for sale retail. The prep / cleaning / tape work might be above my interest level. I would guess some lifts that support from under the deck could also work.

You Tube showing application. Looks like they have lifted the pontoon on blocks while on the trailer. This video might be for the non XL product, but the instructions seem to be the same in the product specs.

I am not seeing any dealerships in my area (MN) and it doesn’t look like you can purchase it retail. Guess I am back to Sharkhide but will be interested in how it works for NCLakeGuy. I was hoping to find something before using the new pontoon. Thanks for sharing.
