Hi Bennington community.
We have a 2021 that we are considering replacing the standard bimini with a power top. I'm wondering if anyone has done this? If so, if they are happy with it or have encountered issues?
Thanks, in advance.

I have the factory power bimini and LOVE it. One of my favorite options on our boat. In that regard, I believe you’ll really enjoy making this change. For us, no problems or issues with ours - 5 seasons of use.

I cannot remember how did it, but someone posted a year or two ago about having added an aftermarket power bimini. Maybe if you do a search in the upper right hand corner search box you can find their thread…? That’s the only one I remember talking about adding it after market.

I added actuators to the existing bimini top on the old pontoon boat up north. The SureShade brand actuators where purchased as a service part.

The two actuators were wired in parallel. The miscellaneous electrical parts consisted of a momentary double pole switch, a circuit breaker and wiring. I also choose to modify the internal travel travel stops to perfectly fit my frame geometry. That top is working quite well.
When I replaced the old boat at home with a new 2021 Bennington I considered ordering that boat with the standard top and modifying it to save money. My wife talked me out of the project because I had other things I wanted to do with that boat and that would have added one more thing. I regret not doing that because I do not like the curved frame that came with Bennington’s power top and it would have saved a lot of money.

I prefer the curved bimini myself. Neat thing with Bennington is having the variety of options.

I agree. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. When I look at the curved uprights with a critical eye I see a frame member that is predisposed to buckle. Most of the time time with the top up the uprights just look bent. However on the showroom floor the stowed top has a great swept back look. It looks like a million miles per hour standing still.

Sorry for my delayed response, I didn't get notifications.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience and information. We are going to go forward with replacing the existing top with the power top. Last year we did some awesome interior and exterior lights, this year the top!

'Can't wait for the floating days of summer.
