Just helped Zodapop bleed his new power steering addition. Seems to work great on the trailer. Maybe he will post pics of the install. His Q with a 250 and just hydraulic steering was tough to handle at speed. Steve

You can't beat power steering with a big motor.

That $800 is for power steering? And not just hydraulic steering?

$800 is just for the Teleflex Marine Seastar Hydraulic Steering Kit. You've also got to order a pair of SeaStar hoses which are around $5.00 per foot apiece--$100 average cost.

Now the Seastar Tilt Classic Hydraulic Steering Kit (Large) will set you back $1,200 minus hoses.

The Teleflex Marine ss 12Volt/24Volt 15 Feet Harness Pro Power Assist Unit (Large) is almost $1,900--and it's the power steering pump.

Most will add a second battery and a Perko battery switch to link them--$200 for the pair.

Grand total for adding SeaStar hydraulic steering, the power steering pump and another battery will set you back between $3500 and $4000 with labor included.

That makes my Yamaha F150 w/o power steering much more attractive. From what I can tell, I'm only giving up between 3 and 6 mph to the F250 motors.

Wow. Lots of money. I guess I'm glad I've never been on a boat with the power steering. I have always had hydraulic. Even with twin 150's on my last boat but they were counter rotating. Then again I, I wasn't carving turns and pulling skiers and tubers all day..

Adding the power steering pump to our boat cost a total of $750.00. Got the pump on Craigslist for $600.00,and hoses, making a bracket etc was the rest, and I was the labor. I wouldn't own another boat without it.

Ditto to Carl's statement! What a difference!

There you go Carl. I know pumps show up on EBayMotors.com from time to time at lower prices.

If I can say something positive about Verado motors, they at least have a Mercury power steering pump that's much more reasonably priced than the Teleflex power steering. I don't know if the Merc. pump will also work on the new 150 hp FourStroke motor, however.

Zodapop's unit came with everything necessary to install it for $700. The extra 100 was for aircraft grade fluid and different fittings to make a nicer install. Actual price was closer to $750. Like Carl's, we were the labor. Steve

I test drove one of the Benningtons at the open house in August and it was pretty awesome. I actually opted not to have it factory installed on my 2275 GCW with a Merc 150 HP motor. I figured I would give it a try without it. I'm sure after the first day out I will be on the Internet looking to buy one.

I will have start my research and figure out what's compatible with the new Merc 150 fourstroke motors and the existing seastar unit. I it's approximately $800 or so to do it myself I will be interested.

My wife thinks she will learn how to drive this thing, she only drove our old boat once ten years ago and ran it into a shallow area and beached it. She's starting to get the courage up to try it and the power steering would really benefit her.
