Purpose of back pole on Bimini

Being new to the Bennington Pontoon boat, my wife and I are stumped as to the purpose of the back pole on the bimini.  I have taken two pictures to show what I am talking about.  It is probably a very obvious answer but we are stumped and appreciate any insight you more experienced boaters can provide.  Can't wait to hit the water again tomorrow and hope to know what I should do with this pole.  Thanks.

The short support is for trailering or storage with the bimini in the down position.

On a high tide we use it to lower the Bimini top down when we go under some very low bridges to get back to the fresh water Springs.

No. I think what you are seeing is just the clip for the strap that usually goes over the bimini.
