I just bought a 04 2575 rl I/o and when I cut the radio on after less than a min of play time it cuts off and trips the breaker after a few moments I can cut my acc switch on and power radio for a moment and the same happens again. My cigarette lighter does not work either are they on the same line? I want to use cigarette lighter to charge phone but it doesn't work and radio keeps tripping breaker. Everything else on dash works. Please help

Welcome aboard hmorris7000'  First place to start is in the 'Technical Stuff' to find a wiring diagram. I don't think your radio and cig lighter are on the same circuit, but check the diagram.

If it is the factory radio... well she's pretty old and you might be best off to just replace it. I think the problem is in the radio's amp. if it where a wiring issue, it would pop the breaker right away.

Take a look under the helm to make sure the cig lighter is plugged in on the back, and check for a fuse for it under there as well.

Good luck and let us know how it turn out!

Thanks for info i'll check tech section. You stated that if it were wiring it would trip right away would the radio playing for maybe less than a min a tripping be considered right away? It has a pioneer headunit so its not stock, also as soon as I cut the acc switch on with radio my volts drop from 14 to 12 immediately

I guess what i meant was, it sounds like once the unit has powered up, something internal to the radio is causing too much amperage draw, tripping the breaker.

Does the unit have a fuse on the back where the main harness plugs in? If it does, check the amp rating on the fuse, it should be a 10 amp, but could be 15 amp.

The point here is that if it is not blowing the fuse on the head unit, then the head unit is not drawing more amps than it should, and it may be just a weak breaker. So check that out.

On my boat, the acc switch powers the radio, so it must be on for the radio to work, is that how yours works?

The ACC switch on our 2007 powers theGPS (was fishfinder),Accessory outlet and radio. Remove the radio fuse and try the switch. Eliminate each component.

I'm I understanding you right. It sounds like the radio is tripping the breaker and then your cigarette lighter outlet gos dead Or is it the other way around.

What I'm trying to figure out is. Does the radio cause a chain reaction of things blowing or do other things blow first and then the raido.

Might be a penny in the cig lighter.

Is it, by chance tied into your live well switch. That's the vacant switch I used for my accent LED underbelly illumination. It would work as long as I wasn't moving, but give it a little throttle and the breaker would trip. I finally moved the wires to the mood light switch, and it works perfectly, even while under way.
