Replacing motor suggestions

Good evening,
I have a 227FS which currently has a 40 HP 4 stroke Yamaha. I would like to replace the motor with something which will give me more control. The Yamaha dealers have recommended the 90 LB, 115LB or the 90 VMAX, 115 VMAX . I do not use the boat for pulling anything. I was wondering would I be better off with a 90LB HP 4 stroke??? Some of the dealers have said the resale for the VMAX motors is much better than the LB which I don't doubt.
Any opinions?

You might get more detailed replies but I'm sure every reply will contain the following in some form or another: PUT ON THE LARGEST ONE IT WILL HOLD! One reason is an engine swap is a big deal both in effort and cost. The other thing I'll mention is that HP increases are definitely NOT linear. In other words, large horsepower increases will yield less in speed and overall performance then you might be imagining. If 115 is the max, you're essentially tripling your HP but you might only get 10 or 15 mph out of it (but it could be more, I'm just spit balling here).
 
Which ever motor you choose , make sure the controls are compatible . Back in 2015 I want to upgrade from a 150 to a 200 , the cost of changing the controls was enough to change my mind .

Thank you for the quick reply. I agree with you completely, I am not really looking for speed, just handling. I was leaning toward the 115 LB motor but then read that the Max has better resale value. But it seems the MAX has had more tech issues than the LB. The cost difference is not that much. Maybe there is just too much information on the net!

Thank you for the quick reply. I did check that and each dealer said it would be swap, everything is the same.
 
Another vote for the biggest that fits your budget. Given that you are not looking for speed, and talking a traditional dual pontoon, I honestly think the 115LB is a great option. That said, if the cost is not much more and easily in your budget, the VMax will stand out in resale and looks nice hanging off the back.
