Rough water package

Thanks guys! Perfect timing on this post! I was hesitant to order the rough water package cause I was kind of iffy on the splash guard gussets. I really like the new design. I contacted my dealer today and added the package.
 
It was mentioned you could use these as a step if necessary.  Not that I would want to...but are they really that strong?

Also they look like they stick out a bit, does this present any docking problems?  We have a floating dock at our lake and the pontoon will be moored to it...will these hit the side of the floating dock when the boat is secured to it?  What is the width of them?

These are the new "rough water" splash guards. I spoke with someone at Bennington when I was ordering and he said they were making a running change on the rough water slash guards. What you see in GNC1017's pics are the new rough water splash guards
 
I have not picked my boat up at the dealer yet.  I am trying to figure out if it has the rough water package.  I have the ESP package that says it comes with the splash fins and under deck wave shield.  I cannot find anything in the boat builder about "rough water" package.  Does this boat have the rough water package?

One more question, I have the Merc Verado 250 Pro, I asked my dealer if the boat has power steering, he told me that all the Verado packages have the power steering, is this true?  The build sheet says it has power assisted steering, but I am not sure if that is the hydraulic assist, or actual Power Steering, does anyone know?

Looks like they cheezed up the rough water design of the splash guards, I personally like the boxed reinforced design better, I don't care for the look of the new ones I guess, they are a step down from the boxed design but heavier than the standard. When I weighed 280+ I used my splash guards as a step a lot, wouldn't dare on the looks of the new ones.

I've never thought to stand on mine. I do like my boxed look though. Military grade!!

My sentiments exactly.  I never stepped on mine but my previous pontoon boat had the splash guards that were not boxed-in and one of them got bent while docking on a windy day.   It would take a really hard hit to damage a boxed-in guard on my current 2014 Bennington.

I Agree I also like my boxed in ones, don't much care for the new version.
 
Likely a "cost reduction".
 
When I am pulled up to a sand bar or shore I use them as a step for when I climb up on front a lot of times so that I can step up a bit and rinse my feet one at a time in the water yet before boarding to avoid dragging sand or mud into the boat. My last Benny had standard splash guards and I had to bend them back down into place many times after being out in big waves on the lake.

The new ones are pretty stiff - really.
 
Agree with Dan but not sure I would brave using them as a step. Someone else can try and let us know though :) . Much thicker than the old guards, which while they were better supported under the gusset, were much thinner towards the outer edges.
 
If you want my 2 cents worth, Premier does a pretty nice splash shield. It's stiff and sort of like an overcap on the toon.
 
I would never imply that one should use them as a step. It's just that some people will, like your cousins 15 year old kid if you get my drift. It's not mine so I'll use it anyway I like.
 
Then again, when I'm not the 'captain'of the day, I've done some pretty stupid things myself, usually because of the liquid Captain. :)
