Rub rail protector

Has anyone installed these rub rail protectors. Photo attached. Dealer installation price is crazy. The protectors come with bolts and nylon nuts, I do not want to use them because that entails removing the riveted aluminum splash guard covering the plywood bottom. Also the only pressure on the protector is when the trailer stop guide rests up against the protector. If you have installed these did you use rivets (aluminum or stainless) and what length or what was used to secure the protector to the rail.

I installed mine but the splash guard did not come all the way forward. They allow you to snap the cover on in the front when the boat is on the trailer.
A solution might be threaded rivet nuts. Drill the holes. Install the rivet nuts. Easy peasy.
