Spiders/webs....

I just sprayed my dock again with Spider Away . Smells like vinegar, so I read the ingredients. 97.9,% vinegar, water and soap with 2.1% peppermint oil.

So all I have to do is add a little dish soap and peppermint oil to my spray bottle. Thx Jack!!! Ha!

LOL - Head smack! Never read the ingredients. Hmmm…. Me thinks it will be cheaper to mix up my own then.

I,agree . It does seem to work . I've only seen one ( knock on wood) .

I just got a bottle of Spider Away from Amazon. The messages note spraying it on your dock. That makes sense since I don’t want to spray it on the boat. When applying did you spray the decking on the dock or just the posts?

I spray it on the dock and my lines . They do crawl on the lines to the boat .

I sprayed it on the dock poles, bumpers, and line just to conserve the stuff vs. spraying on my dock (which is massive). But, I bet it works a lot better overall spraying it all down. The problem with that is it wears off and I found I really needed to res pay more often than anticipated - hence my conservative spraying measures above.

This is the best.. really is.. Twice a year apply and mix it 1 oz to a gallon in a pump sprayer. Use it around the house and boat without a bug in site. Also sold on Amazon.

I read the very lengthy directions and application, and asked questions in chat —> that went unanswered in chat with regards to lakeside/river/dock/boat efficacy.

IMHO:
This is an effective pesticide. However, I does not appear to be for use around sources of nature habitat waters: Lakes, ponds, rivers, etc. Why I say this: The directions are broad, but do have statements regarding not on fields or lawns with food baring plants, not to be used on surfaces that come in contact with skin (sheets, bedding, linens), food prep areas, etc.

There’s enough caveats buried in the many paragraphs of product details that would personally steer me to avoid spraying it within a few feet of the lake, let alone on and over it with docks, lines, boats, etc.

Maybe if one was spraying their dock before putting it in for the season so it could dry totally in the yard, so NO spray could enter into the water, maybe. But then rain and slow weathering may eventually still put even that into the body of water. It just seems like there would be environmental red flags for boating usages. Just my two cents. Not trying to start an argument. Each to their own, just sharing my thoughts. :)

Thanks for sharing! I live in the woods so this stuff sounds like what I need to keep things under control. But, as mentioned, I’ll probably not be using it on my dock.

Thanks for the info. How often do you reapply it?

About every 1-2 weeks depending on weather. That’s why I don’t do the dock as well…but doing the dock would likely increase effectiveness greatly.

The peppermint oil (and a few drops of dish soap to help it stick) in water should be all you need. However, it doesn't last that long, maybe 2 weeks? The great thing about it is that it's safe for everything, spray with impunity. Drink it if you like! Make sure the peppermint oil is the real stuff, the "essential oils" that are extremely potent (they say lemon oil is good too). I use just a few drops in a 2 gallon pump sprayer. I'm just bad at getting out there and freshening it every couple of weeks.
