I have a Yamaha 200 with the Seastar hydraulic steering. Yesterday when I went out I noticed the steering was very easy to turn and it took almost 3/4 turn of the steering wheel before the motor moved and when it did move I got a bumpy feed back in the steering wheel. There are no leaks that I noticed.
We got some very cold weather here in central FL last week and this is the first time I've used the boat since the cold weather. I'm not suggesting that is a reason but just mentioning it. Thanks for any help with this. I'm not using the boat until I get this fixed.

You'll need to get the system bled and topped off with the correct hydraulic steering fluid. Did you look under the helm and see if there is any fluid on the floor? The cold should not have affected the system. Your helm reservoir is actually under the console and is filled via a tube and fitting on the console on the starboard side if it is like my system, tilt helm, Seastar hydraulic steering on my 2021 S21. I can vouch for that cold snap, I had 22 degrees up here in Palm Coast FL, fried all my plants!

The manual that came with the boat and the Seastar manual don't explain how to bleed the system. I saw no leaks but that doesn't mean there are none. Do you know where the bleed instructions can be had?

This covers it...
I bought the power purge machine years ago since I had a number of systems to maintain, this method in the manual is the gravity feed and purge method. It's a PITA and be prepared to have an oil spill but it does work. I'm about 70 miles from you, so if you run out of patience and you can trailer, I'll be happy to do it for you in about 15 minutes using the power purge machine.
