Tachometer Issue

When I start the motor the tach needle does almost a 360 degree travel and points directly down.  And there it stays.


Does anyone know what this means?  Is my Tach bad?  Or is it not receiving signals from the sending unit?

Many times when the tach acts up it is an indication of a charging problem. What kind of motor do you have? Outboards have a rectifier that can go bad, these can be pricey. It is possible that the tach is bad. What does your amp gauge read while the motor is running?
