Hey all, I have a 115 Yammi on my Bennington SX21. When moving my throttle forward the motor engages right away. But in reverse I almost have to bring my throttle parallel to the floor to get any response. It has been like this since new in 2019 but never thought much about it until the other day when a guest asked me about it. Is this normal?

That is not normal IMO. I have had two Yamaha 115’s and reverse engaged about the same distance from center as forward would engage. Sounds like the a rigging cable issue that dealer should fix under warranty.

Adjust the shift cable, it can be done on dry land with two people, engine not running but making sure the propeller is being rotated to aid in shifting from forward to reverse. You tube is your friend.

My manual for my Yamaha has a diagram showing that for the first 30 or 35 degrees throttle position from Neutral forward or reverse nothing is supposed to happen.

Remove the clip that holds the shift cable in place on the starboard side of the engine.(engine in neutral) Remove the shift cable end from its post. While slowly spinning the propeller to allow engagement, shift the engine into forward gear by hand. Go to the helm and shift the control box into forward only, no throttle advancement. Go back to the engine and look at the difference between the cable position and the post location. Adjust the threaded barrel to align the shift cable end to the post location. That should get your shift and throttle orientation back to center. This whole process is done with the engine not running of course.
