Through Deck Large Hole

Hello

I need to bore a large diameter hole through the deck of my pontoon. Approximately 2" diameter.

I was planning on using a hole saw and going right through the vinyl floor material and through the deck.

Am I on the right track and anything to watch out for? One concern I had was tearing up the vinyl floor material and possibly tearing it up. Is the vinyl glued down to the decking or is it just lying on top?

Any thoughts?

There are cross members, and wiring. If you dont have a
Wave Shield you can see their location.

Do you have woven vinyl flooring or traditional flat vinyl flooring? That makes a difference.

My understanding with the woven vinyl is it wants to pull apart if you cut into it…kinda like a snagged thread on clothing. If you cut the snagged thread on clothing, you then often get a thread of cloth that continues to fray and loosen up or pull out over time.

Whereas with the traditional flat vinyl flooring, none of that would be a concern.

I'll confirm what i have when my boat is out of storage next month

Thank you. A good read and yes, you got lucky.

I will inspect, measure and inspect again!

Ok. I'm gonna bite. What's the 2" hole for? Enquiring minds want to know :-)
