Anyone making the decision to buy a boat must also make a decision regarding a trailer. If you don't own or lease a slip, the answer is fairly easy...you will need a trailer! But for those who can keep a boat in the water, here are the considerations:
To own a trailer:
 Initial trailer investment $
 Trailer storage $
 Trailer maintenance (tires, etc.) $
Freedom to move the boat about for vacation travel
No dealer haul-out fees for service, cleaning
To not own a trailer:
 Dealer haul-out fees for service, cleaning $
 Less freedom to move the boat about
Use dealer's assistance loading/launching...hassle-free!
No worries about trailer storage, maintenance, tag, etc.
In general, consider these trade-offs and calculate expense over time. If a trailer is $3200 and the dealer haul-out fee is $200 round trip, you could get 2 haul-outs per season for 8 years.
Now, let's talk about fuel prices (no, let's NOT!)
