I'm having a trailer built for my 2575 RSB with a 300hp Yamaha motor and will be heading back to Michigan at the end of May. I would like your thoughts and opinions on using a transom saver. Also, what brand do you recommend if you are using a transom saver.
I don't use a transom saver. I use the Yamaha MAR-MTSPT-YM-08. My F350 actually uses two of them. I used them on my old SW fishing boat with twin Yami 150's and towed a lot. They're little shock absorbers and I never had any issues using them.
Don, I haven't heard anyone ever say anything good about transom savers. Pretty much every boat manufacturer will tell you they are not needed. Your Benny transom will hold up just fine. They take the same kind of beating in 2-3' seas and the transom holds up just as well. If the transom can't take that, then it's a poorly built boat.
I'll do some digging around and see if I've got some notes on this from awhile back and let you know.
The thing that Havasu mentioned is worth checking into.
UPDATE: Still looking but found this note. Again, not a "transom-saver" thing, more of a tilt support lever thing.
NOTE: Yamaha Owner’s Manuals caution that an additional support device(s) must be utilized when trailering and not to rely on the outboard’s tilt support lever. This tilt support lever is provided for use only during maintenance, service procedures and storage and is not designed to properly support the outboard during trailering.
Thanks Jim, I really appreciate your knowledge when it comes to these pontoons. Although I've boated my entire life, I'm new to pontoons. I sure wish I would of went the pontoon route back in 2013, when I bought my jet boat, but live and learn. I did have a lot fun on the jet but this new tritoon is extremely comfortable in rough water.
My F200 has one as well but it's not for trailering as posted above. I trim mine down as well when trailering as it rides plenty high above the ground.
We tow with the motor down to Canada and back. There is plenty on ground clearance and we have the 8" tires. You will never hurt the transom towing that way.

+1 on these only use one on my 250 SHO as there is a grease zerk in the way on the otherside so you have to pay attention. Just happens to be on the oposite side of the lift/lower switch.
