Travel and Leisure: Best Places to Buy a Lake House

If you want to buy waterfront on Lake Norman bring your money!!! For example....A couple from New York just bought a cleared 3/4 acre waterfront lot with rip rap already installed and a boat house sight unseen in our neighborhood for......$1.8 million!!! Then they have to build a house on it! I don't even like buying flip flops without looking at them and trying them on. Much less buying waterfront property without seeing it!

There are very few actual lake front houses at Havasu, and most of those are manufactured homes on leased tribal land. We now have 3 major docks that seem to accommodate most boaters, plus the various hotels have private docks. Half the lake is California Side, the other is Arizona. Probably a dozen launch points, though the couple of public ones in town get really busy. There is a new housing development going in next to the lake, homes start at 2m and quickly hit $4 to $6 million (two story homes on top of double RV garages with a plunge pool on the RV garage ceiling - dreamy but out of my price range) - AKA Havasu Riviera, LOL. Their docks are amazing - but a $9K fee for the right to lease, which is then $750 per month minimum! And yet, they often appear full. Now, boating is year round....so that is certainly a plus!

I expected the introduction of Zebra mussels to area lakes to have a temporary negative impact on property values, but it didn't even move the needle.
