I just acquired a 2008 Bennington 2050GL with a 90 HP Yamaha 4 stroke. The trim motor works but the gauge does not. How can I test to determine if the gauge is at fault or the sending unit on the motor? And, what would I need to replace the defective part? Thanks!!!

Not a real answer for you, but my 2001 227L had the exact same issue. The problem was straight forward (as diagnosed by a mechanic). It was the trim sensor. The sensor was around $70. The labor was the killer. So hopefully you can do it yourself.
