I found the standard hydraulic steering was too hard for my aging hands and shoulders, so I had the dealer upgrade the steering to the PowerAssist hydraulic steering. The hydraulic booster pump fit in the storage compartment behind the helm captain chair - that location kept the helm storage compartment intact. It works great - completed a full morning of active steering without discomfort - a huge difference. Not cheap, but for me - makes the difference between a punishing outing and a great outing.

If someone is building a boat online, this is one of the MUST haves in my opinion.
If someone is building a dream boat online price is no object. However if someone has to pay $7000 for hydraulic power steering over basic cable steering that can can be a object.

That's a huge difference in performance between basic cable steering and power assist. I don't think I'd ever entertain owning a large boat with basic cable steering. Now for most people and a better representation would be the choice between hydraulic steering and power assisted hydraulic steering, now the cost difference isn't so steep.

I added Seastar hydraulic power assist to my boat in the cities when I doubled the power (twin 115hp). It was needed and worth it. My wife, after driving that boat, thought we needed power steering on the boat up north. I then added Dometic (Seastar) electric power steering to that boat (single 115 hp). Despite low cost it was not worth it on that boat.
