Have anyone has any experience with its appearance protection plan?

Tear is covered up to 2 inch long. I was quote $500 + tax for 5 year term. I believe there is a $25 deductible for each claim.

Or should I save the money and self insured?

I would retain the risk. If a tree falls on the seat your boat insurance will cover it. If a buddy cuts it...he should pay to repair it. I would also imagine some replacement vinyl and a shop could do a repair for under $500.
