Yamaha F90LB tilt question

We've had our 22SSRX for 4 years and just experienced a hiccup with the engine tilt.

The only tilt "support" I've ever dealt with was on the starboard side of the engine. It firmly stops in one of two positions; one position holds the engine when fully up, the allows the engine to move up and down.

Yesterday, I tilted the engine all the way up, like I have many times before, and it wouldn't tilt down. After checking the known starboard side tilt support and then lots of head scratching, I noticed a bracket on the port side (see pic). I have never paid any attention to the bracket and couldn't find it in the Yamaha manual. It swings/hangs freely and fits into a small indent when the engine reaches a certain "up" angle. Once it fits down into the indent, the angle is such that you can no longer tilt the engine down. I had to physically hold the support out of the way to tilt the engine down.

Can anyone shed light on why this is now happening?

The spring is broken. Should be an easy fix.
