My engine has about 36 total hours on it. 75% of those hours are at or under 3000 rpm. The plugs were black and fowled. The dealer installed six new plugs at a cost of $125 for the plugs and $165 labor. They said Evenrude will not cover fowled plugs and they were fowled because I had not run the engine hard enough. The also said that the engine oil injection is set at the factory and can not be adjusted.
I was under the impression that the engine was not supposed to be run hard during break in. Also it is difficult to believe that the factory setting for the oil injection cannot be changed.
I thought maybe someone with more knowledge than my admitted limited knowledge could shed some light on this subject.
I really do not want to run at 4 or 5K most of the time in order to prevent fowling plugs, especially in the rough waters of the St Clair river.
But, I do not want to replace plugs that often at $125 a pop.
I would appreciate your insight.
