Newbie with a 2021 Bennington SX22 Tritoon. What's the purpose of the center tube having an opening allowing water in when stopped, and water rushes out when under way??

Newbie with a 2021 Bennington SX22 Tritoon. What's the purpose of the center tube having an opening allowing water in when stopped, and water rushes out when under way??

That's not the pontoon, it's the motor pod behind the pontoon. Without the hole the open area where there motor is mounted would fill up with rain water.
