Good Morning,

I was wondering if the engine timer starts when the key is turned on or when the engine is actually started? I have a 2019 23SSX with a 150 HP Yamaha.

thanks!

Good question. My guess is that the hour meter begins counting when the engine starts.

I don't know the answer either, but I would question as to why you would have the key on with the motor not running for any amount of time (say more than 30 seconds). There shouldn't be a reason to just have the key on.

I believe that the timer runs when the key is in the on position. Last year, I replaced my factory tach/hour meter with a multi-function gauge which gets all its information from the motor. The hour meter on the motor showed 8 less hours than the hour meter on the tach.
