I am looking for a GPS device that will be easily resettable to Zero miles and time as I begin each outing.
I currently have a Lowrance, but the trip meter is several menus down and quite complicated to reset.
I wonder if anyone with Garmin or H'bird experience can offer a better solution.

Truthfully, I’d look at a cell -hone app. There’s probably a ton of them That will do what you want.
 
I have a Garmin Echomap Ultra 106sv but don't use it for trip logging. To reset trip data according to the manual it's drilling down a few times and there is a reset option. If you need more info I can trial it next time I'm out.

I'm more interested in fuel consumption data which I get from my Yamaha round gauges, but also have the engine data sent to my Garmin as a backup.
