increase rpm's while in neutral

I have a Yamaha 704 remote control throttle lever.......Is there a way that I can increase my rpm's without shifting into forward? There is a round flat black button on the side of the lever....will pushing that button in allow me to move the lever forward without actually engaging the forward gear? Thanks and I know it is obvious that I am still a rookie!

As the others have said, yes. I don't think you want to pin it or anything, are you just trying to warm her up a little for an oil change? Reason I ask is you definitely don't want to rev it too high while on muffs in the driveway.
