Performance upgrade

I have a 2013 2250 RSR with a E-tech 250 with whatever prop comes standard on that setup. I am somewhat disappointed with the performance since I expected 50 mph+. However 45 is the best I can achieve. I wanted the E-tech 300 but was told I would need to go to a larger boat and I don't want a larger boat. Other than the obvious HP difference, what makes the 300 different from the 250? Is it the same block maybe punched out or a different engine entirely or maybe a different chip setup?  Any suggestions on my options to upgrade the performance?

You might pose this question on one of the Etec discussion boards. I'm sure someone there will know the answer to the differences.

Thanks for the responses. I guess we need to keep looking for that magic bullet. There has to be a way to boost performance, we just need to keep searching.

I am surprised there was no help on the E-Tech site, I haven't tried there yet.

Just to fill you all in on where I am, we live on the St. Clair river in Al;gonac Mi. The river connects Lake Huron and Lake St. Clair and borders Canada. We do most of our boating on the river and in Lake St. Clair. My boat is similar to the one described in that it has Tri-Toons, lifting strakes, 50gal tank, etc.

1). Have you checked your engine height to ensure that it is set optimally?

2) If yes, have you consulted evinrudes tech literature for your engine to find out if your RPM at WOT are where they should be?

Dealers choose props and set engine height. Pontoons have so many configurations available that many of them just make their best guess. Your boat could pick up some of the speed you are looking for with just minor adjustments.

Thank you for your response.

No l have not checked the mounting height, just assumed dealer would set it at optimum.

I am not aware of Evenrude's tech literature, where do I find that?

Thanks again

Chuck

Have a look at this regarding setting the engine height:

As far a tech stuff your owners manual should have a recommended value or range for peak rpm. Once you have confirmed or set the engine height you can contact your dealer or a prop specialist to find the one that is optimal for your boat.

If you search the Bennington forums you should be able to find a number of propping threads.

Good luck!
