Replacing echo101, has anyone done it?

I use a ram mount for my Dragonfly 4 suctioned to the console with no problems.
 
The Garmin 301c and 301dv profess to be the exact same dimensions as the Garmin 100. I'd imagine this makes the install easier? Why would you get the "dv" option unless you plan on replacing the transducer and re-running the wire? "Dv" means DownVu and I don't think that works with the stock sonar transducer already on the transom
 
The stock transducer cable might work with a new transducer.  The cable that runs from the transducer itself is only a few feet and there's a connection point usually tucked inside the tube.  I'm not sure if all are like that but mine is so it might be worth checking.
