Sony stereo removable face plate

Every once in awhile I accidentally knock the removable face plate out and it's always a PIA to put back.

It seems like it should be simple - snap it in, close it and it should latch, but it doesn't.

Is there some trick or step I'm missing?

Never had a problem with mine, but, they don't push straight in, pivot side first, then lay it over to the latch side and snap in place?
