I did clean the bonnets a few times throughout the process, I used 2 bonnets for the whole job. To clean them I just used a bucket of warm water and a small brush and rung them out so they were mostly dry. Last year I didn't clean the toons as well with the acid wash so I had a lot more trouble...
As soon as I pulled the boat I power washed the toons then used NAPA aluminum brightener to get everything else off. Yesterday I used a dual action polisher with a wool bonnet and white diamond metal polish. It took about 4 hours to do the port toon, the nose cones and the backs of all 3 toons...
I used the white diamond polish with a dual action polisher from harbor freight with a WEN wool polishing bonnet. It was a lot of work but I think it was worth it. I will be doing this again in the next few weeks. Just make sure you clean the toons first with a good acid, I used NAPA aluminum...
