2022 sx23 Yamaha 200 speed

Just upgraded with a new to us 2022 sx23 with a 200 yamaha with a reliance 14 1/2 x 15 prop. Best i can seem to get is 33 with 2 people and bimini down.. it has the sps tri-toon option and toons are pretty clean. It seems to pop right up on plane but dosent have a high top end. RPM max is 5700, This seems kinda slow, anyone have any thoughts?

Your performance seems a little light to me. I would have expected approximately 39 to 43 depending on conditions. I have a 22’SXSB Tritoon with Yamaha 150 SHO and Ultra Legs (Sea Legs) and get 36 to 39MPH depending on conditions. My Tritoon is slightly shorter but probably as much or more weight given Sea Legs. Dealer informed me that I would pickup roughly 4 or 5 MPH with the 200 over the 150.
Your RPM might be a little low.

You need a different prop. On a light load in good conditions with your setup, you should be 40-3 mph WOT in ideal light load conditions. You will be 200-300 rpms higher too. There are a couple props that are more ideal, including for top end performance. Enertia. SWSII. One of those. Probably in a 15 or 16p. IF you follow up with Ken at Propgods, he’ll get you dialed right in fast.
 
OK, so it is VERY important to know if you have the 4-banger or the V-6 version AND what the overall gear ratio is! Note that Suzuki, in your vintage range, has a 1.1-to-1 reduction gear IN THE POWERHEAD plus another more typical reduction in the lower unit...not sure about your specific motor. Be sure to check your specific model of motor because the gear ratio that may be on the lower unit could be misleading.

As an example a friends 2024 200 Suzi 4-banger has an OVERALL ratio of 2.5-to-1, as do the recent 150hp motors. As a result, the very best prop (so far) for his 22' Bentley is the Solas 15" x 21p that produces strong acceleration and a light-load top end of 44 (with six adults, full fuel and top up the speed is about 37-38). Running very light that prop will hit the rev limit, but does not with a typical load.

A surprising number of people don't know about the gear reduction in the powerhead and then mis-identify the actual gear ratio and wind up with props that have neither enough diameter nor pitch. In any event, a number of people have found the Reliance line of props to not be a good match for their pontoon needs. That said, the numbers you are reporting indicate there may be something other than just a prop mismatch, you should have the power to run easily more than 33 even at only 5700 RPM. Are you using a GPS and does the tach seem to be operating normally?

I believe he is running a 2022 Yamaha 200.
 
RPMs are too low. A new prop might get the RPMs up, but you will lose top end. The problem is either the motor or the boat (not the prop). Check you engine compression and check your toons to make sure they don’t have water in them.

Also check the engine height…. If the engine is mounted too high or too low it could make a huge difference

Ok, so we have the inline 4 cylinder, not sure of the gear ratio, we have a built in Simrad unit which seems accurate..I have a stainless prop 14.25 X 17 which I can try but will that lower the WOT rpm,s ?
 
Are you trimming up as you go?

All else being equal, yes a 17P prop will be a bad move...provided the 15P is unmodified and undamaged. Seems to me that a prop change is a waste of time until you know more about the motor/pontoon. There should be plenty of hp to run more than 33 MPH at 5700 RPM. Somethin' ain't right!
