Actual Red Tape

That is how our lake got infested with Zebra Mussels and Eurasian Milfoil a couple decades ago. The Zebra Mussels are horrible! The Milfoil really crowds out native plants and impacts fish habitats. They do extensive treatments for the Milfoil on our lake. It keeps it somewhat under control, but not eradicated. I don’t believe there is anything they can do for the Zebra Mussels.

They can attach themselves to boats/trailers and can be spread to lakes. Same with eurasian milfoil, we got stopped at the Canadian border and had to clean every single last stalk before they'd let us cross.
Lake home owners are not a threat to other bodies of water. Seems almost illegal to prevent them from enjoying their property as they have in the past.

It was inevitable considering how mobile fishermen are.

It's my read that they aren't preventing owners from using their boats on the lake, just that if that boat goes to another body of water it has to inspected and decontaminated first before returning.
Seems reasonable given invasives. We have too many coming over from China as it is.

Yes, that's common practice.
I misunderstood and thought that motorized boats were not being allowed.

This is the statement that got my attention...
"Then literally hours before May long weekend the Superintendent announced no power boats will be allowed on the lake. So lots of cabin owners are pretty pissed about the complete 180 and lack of consultation."

I guess if they feel boats are the vector (how else would they get to this lake?) then it makes sense to restrict them in some fashion. But eventually these damn things will take over every body of water so the question is, does it make sense to slow their spread to the detriment of property owner? Or just accept it and move on? Silver carp are here to stay in the TVA, snakeheads, lantern flies, gypsy moths, gobies, Alabama bass, spotted bass, lampreys, english ivy, kudzu... the list goes on and on of lost battles.

Every locality has to decide these for themselves, and elections have consequences!

I have seen many lakes with inspection and cleaning stations at the boat ramps to prevent the introduction of foreign invasive plants and animals. Not sure why that do not implement to mitigate the risk. Derrick are rowing boats, canoes, kayaks allowed in the lake at this time? Just not power boats? That is the way I read your post.

Our local lakes went from being non-infested to one lake and inspection stations were utilized but alas the battle was lost & now all area bodies of water now have them.

the lake in question has banned all power boats, homeowners or not. I believe non-powered are allowed but have to be inspected and registered as inspected.

Sooo...you didn't clean your boat first before heading to Canada?

Back to my original question....What is served by banning lake home owners from boating exclusively on their body of water? That's just stupidity.
