Somehow broke my skeg. Is what I bought a good replacement idea?
How much to get it replaced new?

That "should" work ,I have seen others use them . If not, it could be time to call your insurance co.

I have had one of that brand on my outdrive for 10 years. Advice use locktite on the screws.

Another option is a weld repair. That's an easy one for a good welder.

The SkegGuard product will add toughness and drag to your lower unit. The extra drag might be worth it if you expect to take another hit. Most professional repair facilities will remove the lower units and send it off to the their prop repair specialist for weld repair. Of course a new lower unit is possible but most will not consider it to be cost effective.

That'll work!!!

They work but you will lose some speed and efficiency. Also I personally don't like the idea of drilling into virgin areas of my lower unit.

Cost effective and DIY is the advantage. But the proper repair is to weld. While the lower unit is off you can also change the gear oil, replace the impeller etc. if overdue.

I was worried about drilling into area of the lower unit as well. Kinda scares me and that’s why I posted this.
Thanks

"IF" you know a good fabricator they can fabricate it . I would talk to the boat dealers in your area . I'm sure this has happened in the past .

And for what it's worth, that repair shouldn't require lower unit removal as long as the shop has room for boat/trailer, but it would allow easier position welding.
