I hate that I have to make this.

Any Ideas on this. I don’t use the wash down that used to occupy this round hole. I was thinking about installing a flush mount Plastic storage bin. This would be a great place for us to put our keys. Anyone have any sources for a nice plastic storage box? I’m guessing 8” x 6”

Well my parts all Painted and now I get to fine tune it and square up the door in the Frame. I know the color is off but I don’t care.

I decided to take the Door off the Galley.
The Door is not well thought out. I like how when it’s closed it stops that little bit of Motor noise coming in the boat. But I don’t like how the Door is always in the wrong position, Aka it’s always closed when you want it open and it’s always open when you want it closed :) plus the door to the galley fights with this door. My solution is I wanna explore a Pocket style door that slides sideways across opening. I’m still just trying to figure out in my head how I would do it and what material for the door would I use.
My first thought is some Black or Tan King Starboard or somthing like that.

I’m real happy how this came out. The door is nice and solid and opens and closes smooth and Dosent make contact anywhere on the frame. Yea it sucked making it but I hated looking at the broken frame with the sagging door I used to have to stare at. Here is B4 and After

Very professional looking. I kind of like the color change and contrast!

I’m rethinking the factory Latch. I have been super happy with magnets for latches these days. And I guess once you get or find somthing that works ya tend to “rinse & Repete” the galley door latch is pretty cheep. If the door is not latched it seems to fly open. With the magnets you don’t have to wonder if it’s latched. If the door is closed it’s latched! And if you have Happend to have left it open gravity or wind does the rest. I like solutions that are simple & work with how a normal boater used his/her boat.

I am interested to see how you include a magnetic latch. Agee that the original latch could be improved.

Hey MrG,
Wow Sir, your organization of your tool wall is outstanding! It looks like a show room in Home Depot or Lowes. I think you need a drill or two more because you have some "open" space here and there, hahahahaha. Yes, having a limited work area DOES require one to use logic and heavy organization in order to keep a clean and at least somewhat appropriate area for work. I JUST completed a couple of drawers for under my work bench to also "organize" my work areas. I'd been working in somewhat clean and semi-organized situations for years but, I finally got around to really cleaning things up. Not as much as you but, it's way better for me. Pics below show the old system and the new drawer system.

As for your work in the boat, outstanding Sir, outstanding! You've done some real "re-work" of stuff that yes, it should have been done better when it was originally built but, we all know that sometimes, quality is quite often sacrificed for quantity and cost. I like your idea of using a magnet for a door latch. I've done it a time or two myself. I've not done it in your potential application but, I did it in the retention of keeping my front and side gates OPEN without putting or attaching something to the floor, like was done on our rear gate. I'll provide a pic or two but, I don't know if they will help. Another potential method for keeping your doors closed is with the use of industrial VELCRO. You can glue it on the two facing and contacting components and it will hold very well. Just something to think about.

Being a DIY type for decades and attacking lot's of jobs like what you've done, I can surely appreciate your incredible hard work and tenaciousness. And you get a fantastic feeling of accomplishment and PRIDE! Again, well done Sir.
Scott
