Mooring Cover or Canopy

Hello. I have a 2020 Bennington 22SL in central Washington. We don’t get rain usually during the boating months and store in in a garage during winter.

Mooring cover finally failed and the best solution to replace is $1,900 OEM cover then pay for snaps to be put on from dealer or buy from online supplier (Tunay, Undercover Canvas, Geneva, etc). We keep the boat always covered when not using which keeps the interior immaculate.

I was debating whether to buy a new cover or invest in a canopy. Does canopy cover provide solid protection (dust notwithstanding), especially from the sun?

We have a water (hydro with pump) based lift that was made locally in central Washington. The sun hits the boat all afternoon (~8 hours), during peak of summer. We get regular winds off the lake (8-13 mph) and birds like to fly over, but don’t often leave any gifts to clean.

Appreciate the feedback, ideas and any names of suppliers for one or both options. Thank you!

If you are the original owner ,the cover should be covered under the 10 year warranty . If you are not the original owner it still may be covered depending when you purchased and if you transferred the warranty at an Authorized Bennington Dealer
Check with your Bennington Dealer .

You can also do a search here on covers . There have been several other members that have thought theirs wasn't covered and it was .

I suggest a new Mooring cover over the Canopy is the right first line of defense. As you stated, I find the mooring cover really keeps the Benny clean, and does an excellent job of protecting the interior during summer docking, monsoons (yes it lets some water through but 98% not), birds, spiders, etc. Our lake is so hot, most Toon owners leave their double Bimini up during the summer to cut down on the direct heat. Of course a Canopy would be an even better solution, though very few marinas allow them (which in part is due to the monsoons).

The best solution would be both a new cover and canopy. I did that with a previous boat and the cover still looked new after 20 years. A little more work, but we just clipped every other snap and it really helped maintain the inside of the boat. If I could only select one, I would go with the cover. However, we have elderly neighbors who were really struggling with taking in the cover off, and putting it back on each trip, and they just moved to using a canopy only solution which works for them but doesn’t keep the pontoon as clean. It does protect it from the sun.

I bought mine straight from Tumacs. The people that make the covers for Bennington. They were much less priced than going through a dealer and I put my own snaps on. Win, win if you really need a new cover..
I probably could have complained about warranty, but my old cover wasn't totally bad. I just wanted a new one out of better material that wasn't as faded.
