My boat was tarnishing when I bought it last year--4 weeks after manufactured and kept in a dark warehouse. I polished the toons to a near mirror finish--not perfect, but very shiny.
Everytime I would put the Sharkhide on the polished toons, there would be black oxide in the welds, slag, cracks, etc. that would smear. I quickly figured out that I could polish the outside, nosecone and rear of one toon in about 1 hour. To remove all the black oxide might take 10 hours of hard labor prior to applying Sharkhide.
I'm going to be polishing my toons again tomorrow. The more you polish, the quicker it is to do the job. I would usually wait until spring to do a big cleanup on my boat, but it's in my front yard having slip covers made for the seats.
