Newbie need advice on FishFinder and pulling tubes

Lifting strakes make a big deal. Here is some video of the 22 sslx I had with 2 25" toons and no waveshield and a yamaha 115. This is also on the GPS speedo.

Get the strakes. Sealed. You'll need all the buoyancy you can get with just two tubes. That way you will be all set to add an Expess tube someday if you want.

You can't easily add strakes later. It is possible, but probably not practical unless you know someone that can weld aluminum.

Wow Andy, you hit 35 with just two toons and strakes??? If that's the case, strakes are huge and the express tube isn't...
 
Remember to apply whatever MSRP discount you got on the boat to the strakes also.

Not making a recommendation as I need to leave that up to those with similar setups. However, it sounds like you may be asking which of the 2 listed strake options to go with. If so, you pick the one that matches the log setup you are getting on the boat (2 standard pontoons or 2 elliptical pontoons). Which pontoon setup do you have on your build?

Lots of options so kind of confusing, I know...

What's the "E" stand for in 24SLXDE?

All that text and numbers are pretty greek looking to me.  You NEED to confirm this with your dealer.

Or just pick one.  Bennington will put the strakes on that match your hull.  Your talking less than $100 difference on the prices.

Sure did. But that was with me and the dog. Add some weight and things changed! It did get up and go pretty good i thought with a light load. My strakes were not sealed and it didn't seem like an issue getting up on plane. The strakes really got the boat up. I would probably go strakes and a waveshield on a two toon setup vs strakes plus sealed.
 
Well I ordered the lifting Strakes ( not telling my wife/ she would not have a clue/  :)   I don't have a clue) they were $585 discounted The dealer is good on discounting accessories ...  THEY ARE NOT SEALED. I know everyone said to get sealed but that would have been $985. Really could not afford $600 but went ahead since everyone said it was a must....hope this helps. What would be the difference sealed and unsealed.

It put me right at 30K or just a few bucks over. I hope... Our 2 big things were comfort first and fishing second. We added just about everything to this boat just for that.  This lake our boat is at is huge. I am hoping this may help with the boat running smoother in this big lake and also will help with speed, if wife finds out I spent another $600
 
I think you will really like them. Turns a pontoon into a planing hull.
 
I think the debate in regards to strakes (sealed or not) was about the people that keep their boat in the water. There is a thought that the unsealed stakes will have extra surface area for growth which could lead to a greater decrease in speed. At least this I what I thought the debate was about.
 
Oh great mine will be in the water all the time. I'm not canceling, I will have to go with unsealed. My dealer said that is all that he ever sells is unsealed .......... I think he said it had to do with salt and  fresh water. Too many options, I just want to enjoy my boat

I wouldn't worry about this. I think adding the unsealed stakes was a good idea. I am not sure if this last point is true or not. I think the sealed are for salt water. Congrats and enjoy you new boat!
 
Congratulations!   You'll forget about the $600 soon enough :-)
 
As my Realtor said, an extra $10,000 is only $28 a month. 

Of course it is not his money.

You will be very happy that you added the strakes.

Strakes will have the same outer surface area whether they are sealed or unsealed.  They are the same size and shape, only difference (other than being air tight) is the sealed strakes will have a cap on the trailing end.  The front end of ALL strakes have a sealed nose cone on them (even the unsealed strakes have this) so no substantial amount of water travels through the middle of the unsealed strakes when the boat is in motion (although they will slowly fill up and drain out, but it's not like the front ends are uncapped and water is screaming through them), so the inside surface area doesn't count against drag, if that's what you were getting at.  So, no worries about the inside of the unsealed strakes having growth and slowing down your boat.

Technically, the sealed ones have a little more surface area because the trailing ends are capped, but that is a negligible addition to surface area, and any growth on the end cap isn't in the path of the water anyway.

Tom - You will be fine with the unsealed strakes.  Glad you got them vs getting no strakes at all!

You can use sealed or unsealed strakes in fresh water, so most go with the cheaper ones (unsealed).  If you run in salt water, the sealed ones are recommended over the unsealed, although I don't know why exactly.  Corrosion if I had to guess.
