Populatiry of pontoons

What pi**es me off is when I change course, then they do, I do it again, and so do they. I will then power down and stop, forcing them to change course the third time. On a busy day we may have 30 of them crisscrossing the lake, along with paddle boards, kayakers, and rentals (who are freaking clueless). On those days we head up to the damn, or to the south end as they can't pass under the bridge.

My vote would be if you have a 3000 lb boat with a 20 HP on it, you should get the ROW over a sailboat.

Why don't you just outrun them???

Ha ha ha.  Sorry Dave. Couldn't resist. Plus I know it's not your choice to have a 20.  Surprised your forum name isn't Lake Limit!

I just have to keep reminding myself, my fuel savings pays for my boat each month .... LOL!! That is almost true though. When I had the jet boat we were burning at least $50-60 weekend. I didn't really drive that much either. I'm MAYBE $10/weekend now.

You can all laugh now, but when gas hit's $5/gallon, I'll be thinking about you .......

My 200 sips fuel at an idle, about 4 mph. I bet you are burning more fuel than that to go 4mph. Reminds me of an old top gear episode. They drove a Prius as hard as they could and had an M3 follow it. The M3 got better fuel economy!

I suspect if you ever move off that lake you'll have something with twin 400R's on the back and get the last laugh.

He's my one hope for somone with twin 627's!

I just looked up the Yamaha performance bulletins

A 2375 GCW with a F200xb burns .7GPH at 1k rpm and moves at 4mph

A 20SLI with a 25hp would burn approx. .6GPH at 2,250 rpm to get 4mph.

So using that data my 24sslx is smaller and lighter than the 2375 used above. And Dave's GCW is bigger than the 20SLI in the test and has a 20.

Providing I don't go above 10mph in theory my 200 would get better fuel economy than a 20hp.

Interesting

Nope! I probably enter and exit my lift faster than 10mph! Just kidding!

Math makes sense but we know you won't stay under 10 mph :)

I was gonna state, "I'll never go over 12 mph, but I very much doubt you'll go under 20 mph" .....

I have to agree.  My 150 burns less fuel than my 115 did at any given mph.  Except when I went faster than my 115 could.  But, that is expected.

When I was noticing tubing was cheaper with my 150, I didn't believe my stats at first (I keep track of gas and hours), then I did what Andy did and started looking at performance bulletins...  A pleasant surprise!

I just had my evinrrude in for it"s 1st service at 284 hrs last week. We must take more evening Toddi cruises up the channels looking at houses and waving to people. Our boat has traveled over 71 hours below 1500 rpms. We really love those cruises!
