As most of you know, my son and I do a lot of WW1, WW2, Korean war reenactments. Our group also does Vietnam era events as well. So my son wanted to expand his events and we picked up a H&R replica M16A1 with 20" pencil barrel with correct 1:12 twist along with a Steven 77E Vietnam shotgun with the US stamp in the reciever.
Should be a couple of fun guns to shoot.

Due to my degenerative spine condition, I have had to significantly scale back on my sporty hobbies the last three years. However, I have a son and my best friend from childhood that enjoy going to the range and shooting. I had tagged along a couple times in the past. This past year I found it was something I could generally do for a bit and have some fun without amping up my back issue too much.

In February I got myself a new gen. 6 Glock 17. I tried a lot of handgun options, and just really liked the feel of the G17 at the range. Really fits my hands and shooting very well. I have had some fun getting better on irons sights. My red dot is still sitting in a box on the shelf. I will say, the new gen 6 Glocks are nice. I really like the changes they made.


* Some may notice a handful of black mags, but a tan one in the gun. My black mags are for range FMJ. The tan ones (in it, +1 extra in home & cottage safe) are the self defence hallow points. Yes, color coded because, well, me. Figured, it is an easy visual that its stocked for play or home defense.

Sold off my John Deere & accessories and my large Ariens snowblower at our downstate home this past week as those jobs are now hired out to a service due to my back situation. Used part of the money to get this beauty: A Smith and Wesson M&P Sport III. Nothing too expensive or fancy for my needs, but something that’s simply good quality.



Got it all cleaned and ready for the its first time at the range sometime this week. Looking forward to it!

I am not a big gun person myself. Hadn’t shot much since childhood and a little hunting with uncles in my teens. However, it is something I can get out and do somewhat regularly in a low key manner and enjoy. It is nice I have a couple people in my orbit that shoot, so something I can plan around and look forward to doing with them too.

I have some accessories on the way for the AR to improve it a bit from a comfort and operational perspective. Out of the box I simply added nice quality iron sights as I will start there for the fun of it AND the challenge.

BTW - I may be having fun sticking with iron sights, but I am a mediocre shot. Absolutely still a newbie to it all, in skill and knowledge.

Took the savage 110 High country in 6.5 CM today to the range. .55 inch 5 shot grouping at 100yds in a strong cross wind today. For a factory rifle, it sure is a tack driver with factory ammo. I have to imagine it will be better with hand loads.
I really like the machining of the spiral fluting barrel and bolt.

My 18 year old daughter has always wanted to get a pick up truck. She was driving a 2016 Jeep Cherokee for the last 3 years come November (she turn 19 in August) . She saved her money and worked hard and today we came home with a new 2026 Chevy Silverado 1500. All paid for on her own. She's so proud and to be honest, so am I.
We sold her Cherokee and put it as a down payment on the Silverado.
Now she's asking me about mods she can do to make it stand out over the stock trucks. Guess the Apple doesn't fall from the tree. HAHAHHAHA

My son got another fantastic opportunity to re-enact a Vietnam event in Indiana and this time he actually got to fly in a Huey helicopter.

What happened to the days when us old guys were using sticks or cheap plastic guns to pay war in the neighborhood? HAHAHAH

I figured out how the other half lives this past weekend. We had our 2nd annual Saginaw Bay power boat run in Caseville Michigan this weekend. I told my college roommate about it and he committed to bring his brand new Nortech 39' foot center console with quad 500R Mercury racing motors the event. What an experience this was. He ordered his new boat 14 months ago and was setting in Mississippi at the paint shop for the last 10 weeks. He didn't think it was going to be done in time for this event. He was gonna bring his current 35' Nortech with triple 350R's. He got the call it was gonna be done on Thursday. So we drove to Mississippi Wednesday night. Picked it up Thursday morning and headed to Caseville and made it at 6pm on Friday.

The run was Saturday. 77 boats entered. 62 made it from Caseville to Port Austin due to weather or breakdowns. Only 6 of us made it from Port Austin to Tawas and then back to Caseville. Lake Huron / Saginaw Bay can be a bitch. There were times when I counted to 3 seconds and we were completely airborne. Motors pegging off the rev limiters. We had 2 helicopters following the group and taking videos of all the boats. Can't wait for the media from that to be published. Due to conditions, we maxed out at 83mph at times. Nortech tested his boat at 98.6mph with lots of work still to be done on the props. He's running 5 blade 30" pitch props. The dual 22" fully integrated Garmin screens is impressive.

Way above my paygrade but what an experience it was.

So now the bad. My dream since i was 15 was to own a boat like this when I won the lottery. Well 40 years later, my impression of these types of boats have change.

While I loved the whole experience, there are drawbacks. Because everything is tied into NMEA 2000, to start the boat is like a preflight checklist on a F22 raptor. I know its a brand new boat and still has some electrical gremlins to be vetted out. For example, the software for the transducers had to be updated and didn't come online til we were halfway in the first leg of the run. The power steering went offline just after we got into the staging period. Had to shut the boat down and start the sequence all over again. After that, the boat ran flawless except the horn would go off a couple times without pushing the switch.

My point is that I don't want to have a Doctor's degree and a cheat sheet to be able to run a boat. Everything is done via remotes or key fobs to start the motors etc.

There is something to be said for keeping it simple stupid (KISS) HAHAHHAHAA. But what a thrill it was
