Rod Holders

What is the rail size on the S series? 1",1 1/4"?

1 1/4"

I bought some of the scotty's rod holders that just clamp to the rails and I was wondering if it would be safe to clamp these to the front and rear gates? They aren't very heavy I just don't want to gates to get messed up from the weight of the rods. There isn't any other room in the front or back of the boat to attach these to the rails. Thank you!

I have two mounted to my rear gate. No problems so far. Between them and the rods, maybe 5-10 lbs.

Thank you Sir!

I actually need to mount a 3rd one. I have two regular rods and a fly rod, so I'm always swapping holders. I also have two aluminum heavy duty Taco holders mounted to my ladder for the other two.

So this is going to be a dumb question potentially - are you mounting these holders, as in permanently? I'm looking for a rod holder for when we go fishing, which won't be every time out and I want the holders to be clamped on as needed, then stowed with the poles when not in use. Would the Scotty's work for that?

The Scotty's would work great for this. The mounts are held on by screws but you do not screw them through the rails so they can be detached at any time without a mark. I am just leaving the bases mounted and taking off the actual rod holders, the cover fits over them nicely.

Scotty sells a square rail mount that has a clamp. It is expensive and bulky though. Their regular square rail mounts require a phillips screwdriver but you can pull the top part out with no tools so it's like it isn't there. I have two of the regular square Scotty Mounts and I like them a lot. I pull the top parts out and stick them under a seat when not in use and when I put the cover on.

Thanks guys, appreciate the insight.

Funny how rod holders cost more than fishing rods. Mine anyway.
